Hi! I’m Geneviève
Viel-Taschereau
I’m a picture book author-illustrator & art teacher to 400K artists.
I create funny, heartfelt stories for kids. The kind that makes families laugh out loud, and that adults will be happy to read again when they inevitably get hit by that ‘more, please!”
Before illustrating picture books, I studied graphic design and business. I wanted to master the mix of creativity and marketing that makes an artist truly unstoppable. I officially began my career at 19 as the lead (and only!) designer for the Festival d’été de Québec, one of the world’s largest music festivals, where I also somehow ended up gifting hand-drawn portraits to our biggest headliners. Don’t worry, I’ll name-drop later ;)
Since then, I’ve illustrated books for Québec Amérique (Histoires dont tu es l’auteur series) and Éditions Michel Quintin (Abracacadabra), collaborated on indie bestsellers with authors such as Vicky Weber, and built a community of over 400,000 artists through my YouTube channel, Geneviève’s Design Studio.
I am now returning to what I do best: creating children’s books, this time as both author and illustrator.

Like Abracacadabra and the series Histoires dont tu es l’Auteur.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with Canadian publishers such as Éditions Michel Quintin and Québec Amérique, and collaborating with indie authors like Vicky Weber to bring their stories to life with expressive characters, visual comedy, and cinematic storytelling.
As the young designer who gifted portraits to rockstars
When I was 19, I started drawing hyper-realistic portraits for musicians performing at the Festival d’été de Québec. It wasn’t part of my job as a designer, but it felt like a way to make our festival extra memorable to our biggest headliners.
What started as a side project got international media attention when I got the opportunity to hand portraits directly to artists such as P!nk, Alessia Cara, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Damon Albarn (Gorillaz). It was my first taste of generating buzz around a piece of art, and I was hooked.
Or as your art teacher from youtube
Over 400 000 artists follow my tutorials, creative challenges, and Art Talk on my YouTube channel, Geneviève’s Design Studio. I started creating drawing tutorials during the pandemic, as a way to fight isolation from a quarantined Québec City.
The channel blew up so quickly that I made it my full-time focus between 2021 and 2023. I then created my parent company, It’s Drawing Time, as a way to offer even more in-depth education through my course, Illustration From Scratch.
